There’s no correct method to scrapbooking except your skill to using papers, scissors, glue or pastes, and the heart to do the hobby. You might have come across diverse definitions of what a scrapbook is however all those meanings linked with scrapbooks, there will always be one element central to preserving memories. Just like photographs, scrapbooks are keepers of treasured moments that you would forever want to return back to. The moments that you have captured in photographs and the moments of your creativeness, deeply integrated in every page, note, captions and journals in your scrapbook.
One day, you will have a look at the scrapbooks you’ve made and they will take you back in time. Not all of us are scrapbookers. We all experience an idea of how to preserve our past. Well, scrapbooking is like that, only you would add some creativeness and artistic creation concepts into it.
The hardest junction could be to begin from scratch. Scrapbooking might seem simplistic for a few, even so the hours and your ideas you invest upon them is indeed enormous that a lot find themselves at first frustrated. Merely take your time and the process of creating magical moments that will be remembered for years to come.
Here are some guidelines that you could alter and apply in your own experiences. Essentially, these are merely a collection of ideas that will help shed light on the thoughts bugging in your mind.
Somehow you have to know your own style. If you are not certain with what really is your preference when building the design or the layout of your scrapbook, it’s most beneficial that you examine your self first. Recognise your individual tastes and refrain from following the hypes and fads as presented in the scrapbooking industry. This way, you’ll more likely to developed original and individual ideas that will work better in your own ways.
If it is genuinely that hard to develop an original idea, you are able to mimics other scrapper’s works.
Many find great uses in other people’s designs. Some of the time, they even bring out the best from borrowing a concept into their own. This method is called scraplifting. Other people opt not to follow this concept, nevertheless for novices it is always easier to follow those that worked for many. Somehow, along the way you will find your personal processes of doing things.
Whilst a novice, there’s no harm if you check out a few great works. Then change these applying your own materials, photographs and special touches. Once a good inspiration comes along, the scrapbooker could find herself absorbed in the self-confidence of doing things in her own manner.
Produce your own mood board.
Mood boards are generally applied in the fashion industry for testing grounds for fresh ideas. These are like boards with cut outs, drafts of designs and textile swatches are presented to allow first impressions of the new trend. As a matter of fact, anything that will aid the viewer’s direction and concepts of the clothes designer* are placed on the mood board. By constructing a mood board, a scrapper could easily come up with her own style. Placing concepts into more touchable mediums will build foundations for your layouts and designs.
Do not be overly critical in this procedure. When flicking through different magazines, you need not know why a picture or an image appeals to you. Whenever it brings out positive reactions then go and tear it out. This is one good test to learn your unique style.
Second, you need to check over colour combinations. Since a few of us, already have set definite grounds on what our favourite colour is and what do not like. Applying a single group of shades is effective whenever you are able to manipulate and combine them into varying combinations. Experiment with colour, paper textures, fabrics and any thing else you want to try.
Inspiration will come, and then you will flow with many different ideas, remember it only takes one single idea to start an avalanche of ideas.
Happy Scrapbooking.
