I have way too much stuff.?
I am into a lot of things and I have a lot of passions and hobbies including art, sewing, computers, design, scrapbooking, knitting, beading etc…and over the years i have accumulated way too much “stuff” I finally have a studio but even still I do not feel i have enough room for all this stuff and it all gets crammed in boxes and instead of looking for things I end up buying more making it even more difficult to go through it all. I keep things all the time thinking I will use them for a project someday. Having it inspires me to create, but then I think if it was organized and I didn’t have to so much to manage that I would have more time to create and will spend less time and money going to buy it. it is a lot to go through and i’m never motivated to go through it I’d rather just create something instead. So I guess I’m a pack rat but I don’t want to be at all, I love minimalism and just can’t seem to apply it into my life in any way. help?
instead of looking for materials for your latest project, look through the materials you have and decide on your project based on what you already have. Also, set guidlines, such as space limits. Decide how much room you realistically want your crafts to take up, and don’t let yourself buy any more supplies once that space ifs filled. Also, NEVER buy something without a specific use in mind. I have done this sooo many times…. I will see some really cool fabric or bead or yarn, and i will say “OMG i HAVE to have this it is sooooo cool!” DO NOT BUY IT unless you have a specific project in mind. Also, make sure you are actually finishing your projects, not just buying supplies for them and starting them. Once finished, you can create more space by giving away things you know you will never use. Lastly, when going through stuff or considering whether to buy something, ask yourself the question, “how will this object enhance my life? Will it enhance my life? ” If your answers are both yes, buy it/keep it. otherwise, throw it away. Also, remember your goal when buying things: to keep your workspace uncluttered. Do not buy something that you know you will not use right away.
