what do i need to start scrapbooking?
i want to start a scrapbook of my family… so i can give it to my mom in a couple of years when it is done. i also want to make one for my 2 sisters, my little brother and my step-dad. but i have no idea how to start and everything. like what things do i need? what are thing that i should NOT use (products)? also we have a digital camera so i would have to print out pictures and i dont know if i should get picture paper to print them or if regular printer paper would be good? what is the best kind of glue? what is the best paper to use? where is the best place to shop? i dont really have a lot of stores near me… i have walmart, jo-anns, k-mart, there is also a place at the mall near me that has scrap booking stuff, rite-aid…and that sort of things. i am thinking that jo-anns is probably going to be my best bet. seeings as my mom likes to go there. what do you think??? thanks a bunch!!!!!!!
Here are the basics…
-Buy products that are acid and lignin-free. If you are in the scrapbook aisle, the products probably are but just check to be sure.
-Products to begin with: scrapbook, 12″ paper trimmer, scissors, assorted cardstock (for making mattes), adhesive (start with photo splits and add when you are more familiar with products), assorted archival pens. These are the basics and will get you started.
-I have my digital pictures printed at the store rather than doing them at home. The quality is better, in my opinion. You can upload them to the service you choose (Costco, Walmart, etc) and pick them up when ready. Very easy.
-Get a idea book with sample layouts. You just need one and it will give you an idea on where to start. Also see if Jo-Anns offers classes. This will help take the mystery out of scrapbooking.
-Know that there is no right and wrong. Just want to get the right archival products. The layouts are what you like and what you want on your page. Don’t be afraid to try. You can always lay out the page and then adhere when you are happy with what you have done.
When you get more familiar with scrapbooking, you can add tons of tools and items.
One last thing, you can also make photo books too. That is uploading your pictures and them turning them into a book. Check it out at Shutterfly.com, Snapfish.com or Photoworks.com for samples. If you don’t want to scrapbook, this is a good alternative.
