I would like to start computer scrapbooking and would like to know the best software.?
I have heard of Corel Paint shop Pro 9, Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook Designer 3, Photoshop Elements4, and Scrapbook Factory Deluxe 3.0. I would like a program with layouts and ideas but where you could make up your own too.
The best and most used software for make a digital scrapbook layout are: Corel Paint Shop Pro X (though Corel just released version XI), Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0, Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Digital Image Pro. Adobe Photoshop is very expensive and has a high learning curve. Corel Paint Shop Pro is very powerful yet is reasonably priced. Many beginners start with Adobe Photoshop Elements so if they ever upgrade to Photoshop, they’ll already be familiar with the controls.
None of these programs come with pre-made layouts and ideas. The problem with many of the programs that do come with pre-made layouts and ideas is that they have proprietary file formats in which you can’t use any of the incredible digital scrapbooking kits for sale – or for free – on the Web.
You really don’t need layouts and ideas with your software. You can get all of the layouts and ideas and even free digital scrapbooking kits from the several hundred digital scrapbooking sites on the Web. You can buy digital scrapbooking kits for as low as $3. Plus, many of these Web sites offer free tutorials on how to make digital scrapbook layouts using the above graphics-editing programs.

If you’re still not happy with a graphics program that does not include ideas, then try FxFoto Creative Edition. This graphics application does come with digital scrapbooking kits made by the industry’s digital scrapbook kit designers.
Whatever program you ultimately choose, if you want to be able to use the many free and inexpensive kits that are available for download on the Web, then make sure your software can read a transparent .png file and a .jpeg file. The embellishments in digital scrapbook kits come as transparent .png files. The background papers come as .jpeg files.
