I Need some scrapbooking advice!?
My family is planning to surprise my grandmother with a 70th birthday party in Feb. of 2009. We thought it would be a neat idea if we made a scrapbook for her with pictures of herself, friends and family from the last 70 years. We have decided to send all of the party guest a letter explaining the scrapbook and asking them to hand write something short and sweet along with a small picture to go in the scrapbook….
The colors of her party will be black,white, red and silver, and i would like to use the same colors in the scrapbook, but my question to you guys in scrapbook world is, do you think it would look funny if i use those colors through the whole book even though the pictures themselves are all sorts of colors??
Another thing I thought of was getting all of the photos re printed in black and white to MAKE it match but I dont know how expensive that would be?

I don’t think you need to get the photos re-printed. I would just leave them as they are. Keep in mind that scrapbooks are what you want them to be and all the photos do not have to “match.”
For consistency, create the first page and use this as a guide for laying out the remainder of the pages. If all of the pages have a similar look and feel, the book will “flow” nicely.
You can also consider doing double mattes for each photo. I would use black and white paper so it goes will all of the photos. This will help tie in each photo to the next. Then you can play around with red and silver as the background paper, varying how much of each will be on that page. So, I may have the pictures on a 1/8″ black matte with white matte that has a 1/4″ edge or something like that. You can do all the same or do some with a black matte and then some with a white matte. It’s really up to you but by sticking with the same colors it will make for a nice look in the end.
I find when doing an entire book of one theme, this is how the book comes together the quickest. By creating the first page and using it as a guide and just changing a few things, it really helps put it together and has a nice finished look. Hope this helps! Good luck.
