creative handmade birthday gifts?
i’m running out of ideas, I’ve already done the scrapbooking, collages, funny top-ten lists (a poster board size of the top ten reasons she’s better than a fave celeb), and even fake books (taking a real book off the humor section of the bookstore and making my own version). I’ve even done the online make-a-mug/calendar/shirt-with-your-photo-on-it deal.
I’m looking for something fresh. I’m good with computers and cutting and gluing but can’t cook, do paper-mache, sew, or knit. any ideas?
I make these really cute picture boxes for people- find a bunch of pictures of you and whoever and make color copies at Kinko’s (regular photo paper is too thick and color copies from inkjet printers will smudge), then get those paper craft hat boxes from the craft store and paint them a base color with craft paint inside and out (skip the bottom if you want)- let dry completely. cut out all your pictures and figure how you will arrange them onto your boxes (any leftovers I put on the insides), then use decoupage medium to glue onto your box- put a little decoupage onto the box and a little on the back of the picture and put into place- put a little dab of decoupage onto the front of the picture and use your finger to rub out any air bubbles (keep a wet rag handy to wipe your fingers off with), then finish doing your entire box then apply another light coat of decoupage over the entire thing- let dry for one day then apply another coat of decoupage. finish off the top by gluing a wide pretty ribbon around the rim (not wire ribbon and not a see through type ribbon)
I made one of these for my four sisters- I had lots of pics of all of us on them and made more specific to a sister by putting a picture of them right on the top. they loved them! I have made these for many other family memebers also- you can do this on all types of things, not just boxes. I am making my brother a picture frame one using all pics of me and him and puttting a sister poem inside the picture area. this is the type of frame I am using http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displ… you could totally do something like that with a poem about friends or family inside it!
